Conflict management is an essential competence for soccer arbitrators. Here are strategies to effectively manage tense situations.

Stay calm and respectful

Keep calm in the face of disputes. An attitude posed and assertive helps defuse tensions. But more importantly, your exchange must be made with respect. The English -speaking expression "Match Your Energy" takes on its full meaning here. Use the energy you want the player or the coach to use with you. By remaining calm and respectful, you quickly defuse the situation.

Clear communication

Use clear language and explain your decisions understandable, while remaining as concise as possible, always with the aim of taking the game as quickly as possible. Any dependent on the situation, the discussion should last 10 to 30 seconds.

Empathy

By putting yourself in the shoes of players and coaches, it is easy to understand their frustration. Your goal is therefore to get their ear to send the points mentioned, rather than "close" you in their comments.

Be constant

Apply the laws of the game constantly and consistent with the expectations of players and coaches to avoid misunderstandings and disputes.

Sanction if necessary

It happens that, despite your good intentions, players or coaches exceed the terminals. In this case, do not hesitate to sanction a warning or exclusion, depending on the actions taken. The lack of sanction when deserved will have harmful consequences on your match, but also on your colleagues who will have to undergo this same behavior in the next games.

By adopting these approaches, you can effectively manage conflicts and maintain control of the game.
