The Coach's Advice

Stop practicing only your easy 15 foot putts where you never miss. It's flattering for the ego, but it doesn't help you progress. When you install your basket in your yard, start by locking your mechanism to 20 feet. This is the psychological distance where the majority of intermediate players falter under pressure in the league. If you're short on space indoors in winter, practice your putts in suspension (loft putts) or use an old sheet hanging behind your basket to cut out the metallic noise of the chains if the neighbors or your family think it sounds a little too loud at 10 o'clock in the evening.
