Disc Golf - Starter Sets

Ready for your first 18 holes: Our complete disc golf starter sets

If you still think that disc golf is played with the old advertising beach frisbee lying around in your shed, you risk having a surprise (and a fairly long round) during your first visit to a course. Golf discs are smaller, denser and contoured to cut the wind. To get started on the right foot without getting discouraged, no need to decode complex stability graphs: our starter sets bring together the most forgiving models on the market. It's the perfect turnkey formula for learning to throw straight and understanding the physics of the sport from your first outings.

The three musketeers in your bag: Putter, Midrange and Driver

A good starter kit doesn't put anything in your hands. It offers a logical selection of three complementary discs which each have their mission in the field:

  • The Putter (Approach Disc): Thick, heavy and slow. This is the straightest disc in your kit. It is designed for precision throws at short distances and to finish its race at the bottom of the basket chains.

  • The Midrange (Half-distance disc): The Swiss army knife in your bag. It forgives throwing errors, keeps its trajectory longer and helps you get out of tough situations when you're stuck in the rough between two trees.

  • The Fairway Driver (Distance Disc): Profiled like an airplane wing. It is designed to glide on the air and get maximum distance on your first throw from the tee pad, even if you don't yet have the arm speed of a pro.

  • Adherent plastics: Our sets from Innova, Dynamic Discs or Latitude 64 use entry-level plastics. For what ? Because they offer better grip (grip) when it is humid and they break in more quickly to forgive the beginner's technical errors.

A little coach tip to make your transportation profitable: a starting set generally ranges around $40 to $50. To break our $75 target and unlock free shipping, add a small carry bag over your shoulder or a microfiber towel to wipe the mud off your plastic. Dragging three discs in your hand for two hours in the woods quickly becomes tiring!

The Coach's Advice

Leave your Driver in your bag for your first three rounds. I know, it's tempting to pull out the big pointy disc and try to throw 300 feet on the first hole. This is the classic mistake made by 95% of beginners. If you don't yet have the right rotation speed in your wrist, a driver will rise in the air, swing violently to the left (if you throw with your right hand) after only 30 feet, and end up in the big hay. For your first games, make your initial throws with your Midrange (like a Shark or a Truth). You're going to go further, straighter, and you're going to have a lot more fun playing in the center of the fairway than looking for your disc in the thorn bushes.
